The company has launched an international research project to validate the performance of Coriolis meters when used in multiphase flows. The research will be one of the first of its kind in the world to validate the performance of Coriolis meters in multiphase flow situations, with the aim of delivering increased confidence in measurement results and improved fiscal accuracy for oil and gas operators.

Coriolis meters are one of the most accurate flow metering technologies for single phase flow measurement and have a significant global market share. However, many manufacturers are pushing the boundaries of Coriolis technology beyond its traditional single flow use and into multiphase phase flow situations. Currently, operators have no way to substantiate the multiphase performance in both flowrate and density measurements.

Dr Chris Mills, Senior Consultant at TÜV SÜD National Engineering Laboratory, is leading the research programme and said: "Ultimately, the project will provide large-scale, independent validation for the first time. This will enable operators to make informed decisions about the use of Coriolis technology in multiphase flows, saving them precious resource and money. We are looking for project partners to join us in this ground-breaking new project to understand the accuracy of Coriolis technology when used in two and three phase flows."

"We will work with sponsors to research meter performance in our Advanced Multiphase Facility (AMF) - a high-pressure, high-flow rate multiphase facility with a test range beyond anywhere else in the world. Following feedback from the project expression of interest, the target areas will be focused on liquid continuous flows with various quantities of water liquid ratio (WLR), and small quantities of gas volume fraction (GVF). However, any ranges can be covered by the research programme's tests to meet the needs of individual partners," concluded Mills.
